India and the whole region (Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka) is one of the most turbulent regions in the world in terms of politics, economy, also one of the most diverse in terms of language, culture and society. At the same tame, it is not immediatelly accessible from the European cultural perspective and the interpretation of this complicated area is prone to simplification and misunderstanding. Indology at CUFA has a long tradition of balanced research encopassing language, history, literature and politics, and is currently studied and taught at Institute of Asian Studies. It is also the focus of interest of the Religion in Asia Research group .
