The Institute for the Study of Strategic Regions, Charles University, brings together scholars from the Czech Republic and abroad whose area of expertise lies in the “strategic” regions of Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

ISSR is a interdisciplinary platform connecting a number of institutions within the Charles University through research teams. Their research agenda typically combines aspects of diverse disciplines, such as area studies, politology, history, media studies, while focusing on specific topics and problems.

ISSR was created in 2016. and in 2018, it became part of the European project KREAS.
