The study of East Asia has a very long tradition at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, and is currently being studied at two departments: the Department of Sinology and the Institute of Asian Studies. Within the ISSR, various aspects of the politics and culture of these countries are dealt with by the Asia Religion Research Group, specialists from the Department of Sinology are behind the Sinopsis project, with special focus on contemporary Chines politics, and the Chiang Ching-ku Foundation International Sinological Center at the Charles University also works at the Department of Sinology. Others are dealt with by the Prague Center for Korean Studies.
