This axis aims to fulfil the unique research potential of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, consisting in its field diversity in the study of the world in its multicultural and multilingual perspective. It emphasizes above all the knowledge of uniqueness (localities, events, personalities, works), through which the relationship to plurality in its positive, non-fragmented form is to be mediated.
The quality of this axis lies in the knowledge of specific areas and their socio-cultural specifics and at the same time in the comparison, interactions and viewing of changing contexts.
It therefore deals with issues of cultural identities, migration of people and ideas, linguistic and cultural contacts and conflicts, various perspectives, universalism and possibilities of understanding. The approach of this axis is based on methodologically innovative procedures connecting humanities and social sciences.
